NASA Prepares to Send New Telescope into Space for Mapping the Universe

Washington: The American space agency NASA has prepared to send a new telescope into space to map the universe.

The American space agency NASA says that mapping the universe and protecting the Earth from asteroids can be facilitated by using the new telescope.

Researchers from the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University wrote in a new research paper that the SphereX (SPHEREx) will provide an opportunity, using the sensitivity of NEOWISE (Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer), to categorize millions of celestial bodies present in the solar system.

NEOWISE is a successful mission of NASA to search for asteroids, which has searched for more than 3000 near-Earth objects during its 10-year operation period.

According to the researchers, with the data obtained from SphereX, potentially hazardous asteroids can be observed, ultimately aiding in saving the planet.

NASA's SphereX telescope, expected to launch in the second quarter of 2025 or later, will conduct optical and infrared surveys of the entire sky in space for two years.
