Increased Screen Time, Concerns for Children's Health among Parents. A new study reveals that parents are increasingly worried about the potential harm to their children's health due to increased screen time. However, the research suggests an overall improvement in children's digital well-being.
A survey conducted by online safety organization Internet Matters, involving 1000 families, explored their digital habits in an annual research report.
The latest report indicates that the increase in screen time on children's devices during designated hours and the reduction in time traditionally allocated by families contribute to parental concerns. Sixty-three percent of participating parents expressed that the time spent online negatively affects their children.
Around 50% of parents reported concerns about the impact of screen time on their children's sleep. Nevertheless, the research found an overall improvement in children's digital well-being, with many adolescents highlighting the benefits of online engagement.
However, the study also shed light on some alarming online activities. Fifteen- and sixteen-year-old girls, half of the participants, revealed attempts by strangers to establish contact. Additionally, two-thirds of children (67%) mentioned having had some negative experiences on the internet.
