Researchers Have Found Another Type Of Lizard 2024. A new species of iguana (a type of lizard) named Calotes has been discovered in China.
According to media reports, researchers in China declared Calotes a new species when they realized that the lizard samples collected during the study from 2009 to 2022 were actually this new species of lizard.
"From 2009 to 2022, we conducted several field surveys in southern China and collected numerous samples of lizards of the genus Calotus versicolor," said Yuan Hong, a member of the research team. However, we later discovered that the specimens we thought were Calotus versicolor in southern China and northern Vietnam were actually a new species.
Describing the characteristics of this lizard, Yuan Hong said that the kelotus is about 3 inches long and is found in tropical forests in southern China and northern Vietnam.
Moreover, it is active at the edge of the forest, and when threatened, it enters bushes or climbs tree trunks to hide. At night, it sleeps on the branches of bushes.
