Smoking Shrinks The Brain, Scientific Research Has Revealed: According to a recent study conducted by the Washington University School of Medicine, it has been discovered that regular smoking has a detrimental impact on the size of the brain. The researchers involved in this study have revealed that individuals who engage in smoking habits over a prolonged period experience a significant reduction in brain volume.
A diminished brain volume is associated with various cognitive issues, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, the study findings indicate that while ceasing smoking can help prevent additional harm, the specific region of the brain that has already undergone damage cannot be regenerated.
Experts had knowledge about the detrimental impact of smoking on the lungs, however, limited information was available regarding its repercussions on the brain.
The recent findings of the study were recently made available to the public in the scientific journal Biological Psychiatry Global Open Science.
