Microsoft Edge Tests Live

Translation Testing on Multiple Websites

Microsoft Edge has started testing a feature to translate videos from various websites, including YouTube, into different languages.

AI-Powered Translation

According to a statement released by Microsoft, the testing uses artificial intelligence (AI) to translate videos viewed on websites such as YouTube, LinkedIn, and Coursera.

Initial Language Support

Initially, the translation testing supports translations from English to Spanish and vice versa, with plans to include more languages gradually.

Future Integration

The company revealed that an AI translation tool will be integrated into the Microsoft Edge browser in the future. This tool will allow users to click and listen to videos in their preferred language.

Demonstration Video

In a video released by Microsoft, a LinkedIn video is shown being translated. By clicking the translation option, the video’s audio changes to the selected language.

User Experience

Users will be able to select their desired language for any English video via the translation feature. The video will then automatically play with the translated audio while retaining the original speaker's voice.

Broad Applicability

This feature will enable direct translation and listening of videos from YouTube and other websites on Microsoft Edge.

Future Expansion

There is speculation that Microsoft will extend this feature to major websites like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, allowing users to translate and listen to videos from these platforms as well.
