Artificial Eyes Manufacturing Using 3d Printing Technology: Scientists have devised an easy and rapid 3D printing method for creating artificial eyes that are closer to reality, according to reports.

Importance of Innovation in Eye Prosthetics

It's estimated that around 8 million people worldwide wear artificial eyes, and the process of acceptance can be crucial psychologically. However, current methods of eye prosthesis fabrication can be time-consuming and require highly skilled professionals to customize the eye for each patient.


Researchers state that the current process of crafting artificial eyes typically takes more than eight hours.


The Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD in Germany, led by Dr. Johann Reinhardt and his team, developed and tested a digital process for creating artificial eyes.


Researchers scanned the eye sockets of 10 patients and digitally modeled the shape of the artificial eye according to the size of the socket. A fully colored artificial eye made from various materials was printed in just 90 minutes.


By employing digital technologies and 3D printing, the process not only streamlines production but also offers a more precise and personalized solution for patients in need of artificial eyes.
