Google Maps is incorporating another new AI feature, called Screen Reader, first introduced in 2023.
Through this feature, users can scan their surroundings using their phone's camera. Now, with further enhancement, audio support is being added to it.
This new feature will be particularly useful for individuals with visual impairments or those who find themselves in unfamiliar places where they may not be familiar with the language.
According to the company, when users point their phone's camera towards a specific location or shop, relevant details will be provided via audio by Google Maps.
To utilize this, users will need to click on the camera icon in the Google Maps search bar to scan their surroundings. Before doing so, it will be necessary to enable the TalkBack screen reader feature, which will be available in the Accessibility menu in smartphone settings.
