Tokyo: Exciting news for those seeking to work from home as Japan plans to introduce a 6-month Digital Nomad Visa program. The announcement by Japan's Immigration Services Agency states that the Digital Nomad Visa program will commence by the end of March 2024. This brings good news for remote workers as the program aims to facilitate and provide visas for those working from home.


Program Details

Under this program, individuals wishing to obtain Japan's residency visa must have an annual income of at least $67,557. This visa will be available to individuals from 49 countries and regions. However, details regarding these countries or regions have not been disclosed yet. Along with income, it will be mandatory for applicants to obtain private health insurance.


Family Inclusion

Under this program, individuals obtaining Japan's visa can also bring their life partners and children along. According to Japanese media reports, holders of the Digital Nomad Visa will not be provided with permanent residency cards, nor will the duration of their stay be immediately extended. These individuals will have to return to their home country after 6 months, after which they can be offered a visa again.
