The Silent Struggle: Living with Multiple Diseases

Individuals affected by multiple diseases often conceal their illness, according to research. Research reveals that many people with infections hide their illness to engage in work, travel, or social events.

A recent study indicates that three out of four individuals (75 percent) in such cases hide their multiple diseases at least once.

A report published in the journal Psychological Science stated that participants in the study concealed their illnesses, traveled on airplanes, and engaged in other social activities while keeping their diseases hidden, neglecting the risk of spreading the disease to others.

Furthermore, among the 75 percent of individuals, those associated with healthcare professions were also included. Dr. Wilson Merle, a researcher at Mushi University, stated that most sick individuals tend to conceal their multiple diseases, regardless of how detrimental it may be for others.

Wilson and his colleagues included over 900 participants in the study, including 400 healthcare employees. Of these, 70 percent of participants reported hiding the symptoms of their multiple diseases.

Many participants explained that they concealed their illnesses because if it were apparent, it would adversely affect various social activities. Others mentioned doing so due to low wages, forcing them to work overtime for extended periods.
