Facebook Users Data Leak: Global Cyber Security Warning

Facebook Users Data Leak

Revelation of Data Leak Affecting Millions of Facebook Accounts

A global cyber security company has revealed the online leakage of data from millions of Facebook accounts.

The company warns that the data leak exposes Facebook marketplaces to scams involving deceptive messages and emails, theft of sensitive personal information, and severe risks of cyber attacks.

Extent of Data Leak and Potential Risks

The massive data leak includes the phone numbers, email addresses, and private information of two million users. This data could also be exploited for sale in cybercrime, enabling perpetrators to engage in fraudulent activities.

Jake Moore, Global Cybersecurity Advisor at ESET, while issuing a warning to Facebook users, emphasized the urgency of changing passwords if there's even a slight suspicion of a Facebook account being compromised.

Allegations and the Breach

According to the company, a cybercriminal named "Intel Broker" posted on a hacking forum, claiming to have stolen a partial database containing two hundred thousand entries from Facebook's cloud services in October 2023.

The leaked data includes names, phone numbers, email addresses, Facebook IDs, and profile information, among other sensitive personal details.

Verification and Response

A technology news website, Bleeping Computer, has verified the authenticity of the leaked data by confirming email addresses and phone numbers.
