Ancient Intact Egg

Discovery of 1700-Year-Old Perfectly Preserved Egg in Buckinghamshire

Recently, archaeologists in Britain have unearthed a completely intact egg dating back 1700 years.

According to media reports, archaeologists in the British region of Buckinghamshire have discovered that the world has never seen an intact egg preserved in a secure condition, at least 1,700 years old.

Experts claim this egg to be the oldest unintentionally preserved egg in the world. Researchers were further astonished to find that the egg still contained its original liquid.

Edward Bedulph, Senior Project Manager at Oxford Archaeology, stated that the persistence of the liquid inside the egg was completely unexpected. It was anticipated that all the liquid would have drained out, but that was not the case.

The egg was found in a large water-filled pit, originally constructed by the Romans. This pit was initially used for making wine and later repurposed as a sacrificial pit.

In addition to the egg, the pit contained a basket, pottery vessels, coins, leather shoes, animal bones, and other eggshells.
