Microsoft's Decision To Change Default Font After 17 Years

Microsoft Calibri Default Font

Technology giant Microsoft has decided to change its default font, Calibri, after 17 years. The company has introduced a new default font called "Segoe UI" to replace Calibri.

Calibri's distinctive feature was its slightly curved and modern look, setting it apart from other fonts. It had been Microsoft's default font since 2007.

However, in 2021, Microsoft announced its decision to replace Calibri with a different font. In a statement at that time, it was mentioned that while Calibri had been Microsoft's default font since 2007, it was being replaced by "Times New Roman" as the default font. Calibri had served well, but it was time for a change.

Microsoft had chosen Segoe UI as the replacement font last year, and users are now experiencing the implementation of this change.

In a blog post, Microsoft explained that the font "Segoe UI" is inspired by 20th-century sans-serif typography. Sans-serif fonts are those that do not have small decorative lines at the ends of characters.

It is important to note that Microsoft is not completely eliminating the Calibri font. Users who do not prefer the new font can still revert to the old Calibri font.
