Meta Takes Important Steps For The Protection Of Underage Users

Meta Takes Important Steps

Meta takes important steps for the protection of underage users: Technology company Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is ending the feature that allows messages from individuals (whom they do not follow) to be received by users under 18 years of age. This initiative by Meta is being taken as a measure to protect underage users.

According to the company, this change is part of actions taken to provide appropriate disclosures regarding age on the company's various platforms.

This change will further enhance Meta's existing policy, where older users cannot send messages to underage users (those who do not follow them).

This means that on platforms like Instagram or Facebook Messenger, underage users cannot directly send messages.

Meta mentioned in a blog post that with this new setting, underage users can only join group chats with people who already follow them, allowing parents and guardians to feel more confident.

According to the company, this setting will apply to all users under the age of 16. Users on Instagram will receive a notification on their feed informing them about the upcoming changes.
