Excessive Salt Consumption Causes Over 180,000 Annual Deaths

Salt Consumption Causes

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that globally, over 180,000 individuals lose their lives annually due to the excessive consumption of salt, leading to various diseases.

According to a report released by the WHO on the global prevalence of excessive salt intake, nearly all individuals worldwide are consuming double the recommended amount of salt.

The organization recommends a daily intake of 5 grams of salt per person, but many are using more than 10 grams daily, contributing to the emergence of various diseases.

The WHO warns that excessive consumption of salt can lead to cardiovascular issues, high blood pressure, strokes, digestive system diseases, and stomach cancer, among other severe health conditions. Annually, close to 190,000 individuals globally succumb to these diseases.

The WHO emphasizes that while the average healthy individual typically obtains the required amount of sodium from various foods, the excessive intake of sodium found in salt can lead to the development of diseases.
