AI Technology Can Accurately Identify Emotions From Faces: New research has revealed that AI technology is also capable of recognizing emotions from facial expressions.
According to media reports, a team of scientists in Switzerland has said that the recent discovery could lead to further development in the field of psychotherapy.
A team of scientists at the Center for Scientific Computing at the University of Basel in Switzerland trained an artificial neural network, a sub-technology of AI, on more than 30,000 facial images to detect six basic emotions: happiness, surprise, anger, hatred, sadness, and fear.
The researchers then used the AI model to analyze more than 950 hours of videos of psychologists' general therapy sessions involving 23 people with dual personality disorder.
The results obtained from the AI model were compared with the results of three trained clinicians, with the experts finding consistency between the two results. Experts said that AI technology has proven to be as adept as an expert physician in accurately predicting the facial expressions of patients.
