How is the NASA video an important milestone in space science? The American space agency NASA has shared a video of a cat on social media which is being described as a huge milestone.
According to foreign media reports, this video was sent back from 19 million miles away as a NASA laser communication demonstration.
Sharing the video on microblogging website X (formerly Twitter), NASA wrote, "We've streamed the first Ultra HD laser-assisted video stream for you from deep space."
It said that the video was of a cat named Tatters. NASA also said the experiment would pave the way for high-data-rate communications to support missions such as sending humans to Mars.
NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Mallory says this is a significant achievement to meet our future data transmission needs and underscores our commitment to advancing optical communications.
The cat shown in the video is said to be the pet cat of an employee working at the California-based Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) who is chasing a laser point in the video. Note that JPL is a research and development laboratory established in California.
